Also known as Augmentation Mammaplasty, the breast augmentation procedure involves surgically placing either saline or silicone implants into the breast for additional fullness or to restore breast volume lost after weight reduction or pregnancy. Brest augmentation surgery usually takes our plastic surgeon about one hour to complete and is done in his private office ambulatory surgery center.
Initial Consultation for Breast Augmentation Procedure
During your initial consultation with Dr. Joshua Hyman, you will discuss your goals and expectations for the surgery. This consultation will also involve a review of your complete medical history and an examination of the skin and soft tissue of the breasts. Our plastic surgeon will suggest the procedure that suits you best and answer any questions that you might have. The implant type, size, and shape, and the position of the incision and implant are determined based upon both your body type and your personal preference. Dr. Joshua Hyman encourages his patients to choose their implant size by using various sizers in the office. our plastic surgeon believes the patient should be allowed to choose the size breasts she desires and will help you pick the correct size for your body so that the most natural results are achieved.
Breast Augmentation Procedure
During the procedure, the incision may be made at the edge of the nipple-areolar complex on the breast, within the underarm, or beneath the breast in the intramammary crease. The implants are placed either behind the pectoralis muscles of the chest or behind the glandular breast tissue. The procedure takes approximately one hour and is performed on an outpatient basis in Dr. Joshua Hyman’s private ambulatory surgery facility.
Post-Breast Augmentation Surgery
Immediately following the procedure, your breasts may be swollen. Most swelling will resolve within several days, and the breasts will reach their final shape within six weeks. A support bra is given to the patient at the time of surgery, and a soft bra without an under-wire may be worn starting one week after the procedure. Patients who choose breast augmentation surgery should stay home from work for at least 3-4 days following the procedure. Light activity, including walking, is permitted and encouraged immediately following surgery. Heavy exercise should be avoided for three weeks. Six weeks after the surgery, you can exercise your chest once again.
