BREAST LIFT (MASTOPEXY)
Following pregnancy or weight loss, women’s breasts may sag. If desired, Dr. Joshua Hyman will lift the breast by repositioning the breast tissue and allowing the skin to re-drape in its new position by performing a mastopexy, or breast lift, in New York, New York. This procedure will also raise the height of the nipple and areola, resulting in a more youthful contour to the breast. If patients desire more fullness in their breasts, breast augmentation can be performed simultaneously with the lift procedure by placing breast implants.
Initial Consultation for Breast Lift Procedure
During your initial consultation with Dr. Joshua Hyman, the two of you will discuss your objectives and expectations from the breast lift procedure. You will also review your entire medical history and receive an examination of the skin and soft tissue of your breasts. At the conclusion of the consultation, our plastic surgeon will suggest a procedure that suits you best and answer any questions you may have.
Breast Lift Procedure
There are several techniques that can be used in the mastopexy procedure, including through the circumareolar incision (the incision is made around the nipple-areolar complex only), through the vertical incision (the incision is made around the nipple-areolar complex and vertically below it), and through the traditional incision (an incision is made around the nipple-areolar complex, vertically below the breast, and horizontally along the inferior aspect of the breast). The technique used in your breast lift procedure is based on the amount of lift that your breast requires and whether or not an additional implant augmentation is going to be performed. The breast lift procedure takes two to three hours to perform and is done under anesthesia in Dr. Joshua Hyman’s private ambulatory surgery facility. All patients undergoing breast lift procedures will be able to go home within hours of the completion of the procedure.
Post-Breast Lift Surgery
Following the procedure, the patient will receive a soft, supportive bra that must be worn for one week. A regular soft bra or sports bra without an under-wire should be worn for the following three weeks. Most sutures from the surgery will dissolve on their own. Mild to moderate swelling is normal and will make the breasts appear larger for the first couple of weeks after surgery. Patients are encouraged to walk the day after surgery, but heavy exercise should be avoided for four weeks.
