Skin Cancer Excision & Reconstruction Surgery
Skin cancer is diagnosed by removing all or part of a growth and having a pathologist examine it under a microscope. If the cancer is minor, it can be removed in the office under local anesthesia. If the cancer is major or has spread to the lymph nodes, a more extensive surgery in the hospital may be required. In some cases, a dermatologist will perform MOHS surgery (a procedure in which the cancer is shaved off one layer at a time and examined under the microscope until all cancer cells have been removed) in his or her office and send the patient to Dr. Joshua Hyman for immediate reconstruction of the defect.
Skin Cancer Follow-up
Following the excision of skin cancer lesions and the reconstruction of your skin or face, regular follow-up appointments with our plastic surgeon are necessary for both suture removal and evaluation for possible skin cancer recurrence. These appointments are a vital part of your treatment. As a part of your prevention regimen, it is also important to wear sunscreen every day.
