Male Breast Reduction (Gynecomastia) New York City
Gynecomastia is a medical term that is used to describe the situation in which a male has excess breast tissue. The excessive breast tissue can be on one breast or bilateral. In addition, the tissue can be soft and fatty or firm and glandular. There are many medications that can contribute to this condition as well as puberty and weight gain. We find, in most cases, there is no definable cause to the condition and little resolution of the breast size over time.Men who feel self-conscious about the size of their breasts can receive breast reduction procedures that will remove excess glandular tissue and, if necessary, excess skin from the breasts. The result is an improved contour and a flatter, firmer chest.
Initial Consultation for Male Breast Reduction Procedure
During your initial consultation with Dr. Hyman, you will discuss your expectations and desires of the surgery. This visit will include a review of your complete medical history and an examination of the breasts. If Dr. Hyman suspects that a medical problem is the cause of the gynecomastia, you will be referred to an appropriate specialist. Dr. Hyman will then answer any questions that you might have and suggest a procedure that will suit you best.
Male Breast Reduction Procedure
The type of breast reduction procedure performed depends upon the patient’s individual anatomy. In other words, a large amount of tissue will need a more invasive procedure, most likely. If there is minimal fat and good skin quality, small minimally invasive procedures can have a significant improvement. All surgical procedures that Sr. Hyman offers for gynecomastia are out-patient procedures with no drains or involved dressings. Dr. Hyman offers laser liposuction as well as power liposuction for those cases with only minimal fat. For those cases with larger amounts of breast tissue, the surgical procedure will be performed at is private, AAAASF certified, office based operating room.
Post Breast Augmentation Surgery
Following surgery, Dr. Hyman will apply a compressive tight wrap to the chest and detailed post operative instructions. In most cases, the patient will be able to shower after 2 days and return to work in 3 days. Dr. Hyman encourages frequent post operative as he likes to keep a close eye on healing. However, only at 1 week and 3 months are the regular scheduled and needed appointments.
