ARM LIFT (BRACHIOPLASTY)
As we age, the skin underneath the upper arms may become loose and sag. To remove excess skin and fat from the upper arm, Dr. Joshua Hyman may perform brachioplasty, or an arm lift, in New York, New York. When there is minimal skin excess and good elasticity, liposuction is often sufficient to re-contour the arms. When the skin laxity is more significant, it may be necessary to create a scar along the inner arm.
Dr. Joshua Hyman has written and lectured extensively on the subject of minimal incision brachioplasty, or the “MIB” procedure. This specific arm lift procedure limits the incision and scarring to the axilla (armpit) area alone.
Arm Lift Procedure
After your initial consultation with Dr. Joshua Hyman, the liposuction of the arms will performed through several small incisions. When a full brachioplasty is required, an incision extending from the armpit to the elbow is made on the inner arm. Excess fat and skin will be removed and the remaining skin is re-draped and tightened to create a more youthful contour of the upper arms. The arm lift procedure takes between two and three hours and is performed in our plastic surgeon’s ambulatory surgical center. Some patients are candidates for the MIB procedure (Minimal Incision Brachioplasty), which confines the scarring to the armpit area only.
Post-Arm Lift Surgery
Following surgery, the patient will wear a compression garment for three weeks. Most of the sutures placed by our plastic surgeon are dissolvable and will not require follow-up appointments. After the surgery, you will need to rest for 4-5 days to recover. Light exercise such as walking is permitted and encouraged immediately after surgery, but heavy exercise, including lifting, should be deferred until three weeks after surgery.
