  • Wrinkles

  • Facial scars
  • Acne scars
  • Sunspots
  • Age spots
  • Freckles
  • Uneven skin texture
  • Uneven skin tone

Chemical peel treatment

Using a chemical solution, our peels will improve and smooth the texture of the facial skin by removing the damaged outer layers. Dr. Joshua Hyman offers trichloroacetic acid (TCA) and alpha-hydroxy acid (AHA) peels. Alpha-hydroxy acids, such as glycolic, lactic, or fruit acids, create mild peels which work best to remove fine wrinkling, dryness, and uneven skin pigmentation.

These peels may be performed weekly or at longer intervals. Trichloroacetic acids are medium-depth peels that are also used to correct fine wrinkles, superficial blemishes, and pigment problems. For patients with darker skin, TCA peels often achieve better results than AHA peels.

Occasionally, more than one peel may be needed to achieve the desired result. Both TCA and AHA procedures are done in the office and take 20 to 30 minutes to perform. Anesthesia is not used as most patients feel merely a temporary stinging sensation as the peel is applied.

What will recovery entail?

After an AHA chemical peel, no ointment or covering is required. You may experience temporary stinging, redness, irritation, and crusting, but these side effects soon subside. With a TCA peel, you may also notice some swelling.

Dr. Joshua Hyman may recommend a mild moisturizer that helps to soothe the skin. Sunscreen is essential following a chemical peel. If you have had a TCA peel, you will need one to two weeks before returning to work or other activities. If you had an AHA peel, you could return to your usual activities in just one to two days. A series of mild peels, performed at three to four-week intervals, can produce exceptionally beautiful results.

Which type of chemical peel is right for you?

Chemical peels are available in several formulas, including mild, medium, and deep. Choosing the right formula is a critical point in safe, healthy skin renewal.

Dr. Hyman and his entire medical and support staff are committed to patient health and safety and will only recommend the formula that they feel will best resolve your unique skin condition. The goal is to refresh, renew, and rejuvenate your skin, leaving it evenly toned and glowing.
